We extend our heartfelt sympathies to those affected by the wildfires that began on January 7, centered around Los Angeles. We pray for a swift recovery and restoration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Sunday, January 5, 2025, we celebrated the New Year with the annual Hatsugama (First Tea Ceremony) at the Miyako Hybrid Hotel in Torrance. We were honored to welcome Consul General Sone Kenko of the Consulate-General of Japan in Los Angeles and celebrated this gathering with 110 participants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the main room (thick tea room), a festive New Year\u2019s ambiance was created, with special attention given to showcasing historical tea utensils from the late Edo period. Participants shared an exceptional moment enjoying Koicha (thick tea) while appreciating the traditions and culture of the tea ceremony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the Ryurei (table-style) tea room, attendees explored cultural stories, including the significance of this year\u2019s zodiac sign, the Snake, revered as a deity of abundance, and the history of a Hiroshima confectionery shop that rose to prominence shortly after World War II. Participants enjoyed Usucha (thin tea) while reflecting on Japanese culture and traditions, sharing a peaceful and harmonious time together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
