{"id":6366,"date":"2026-04-17T10:03:13","date_gmt":"2026-04-17T17:03:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.omotesenke-socal.org\/?p=6366"},"modified":"2026-04-17T12:20:08","modified_gmt":"2026-04-17T19:20:08","slug":"rikyuki-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.omotesenke-socal.org\/en\/recommendation\/rikyuki-2026\/","title":{"rendered":"2026 Rikyu Memorial Service was Held in Torrance"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>On Sunday, March 29, 2026, as signs of spring began to emerge, the annual Rikyu Memorial Service (Rikyu-ki) was held at the Miyako Hybrid Hotel Torrance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the opening, Ms. Kyoko Kondo delivered welcoming remarks, followed by an address from Mr. Sano &#8211; President of Omotesenke Domonkai Southern California Region. He reflected on how Riky\u016b-ki is observed during a season when various religious celebrations\u2014such as Easter and Hanamatsuri\u2014take place, suggesting that there may be a deeper spiritual connection among them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The tea offering ceremony, held in reverence of Sen no Rikyu, the founder of the Way of Tea, was conducted by the Fukushima group. The ceremony was solemnly performed by host Ms. Hisako Niizuma, first guest Ms. Midori Morita, and second guest Ms. Lisa Guiotoko. As attendees looked on in silence, a bowl of tea was respectfully offered before the image of Rikyu displayed in the alcove, and all bowed deeply in reverence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Afterward, Joyo manju (traditional Japanese steamed bun filled with red bean paste) and matcha were served to all participants, who enjoyed a tranquil moment, their hearts soothed by a single bowl of tea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This was followed by Cha Kabuki, one of the traditional Seven Exercises (Shichijishiki), presented by the Poncher Shachu group.
