On July 19, 2026, the Omotesenke Domonkai Southern California Region participated in a Japanese Cultural Event held at the Asian Pacific Islander Family Mental Health Center (API FMHC) in Long Beach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the event, we presented a Ry\u016brei tea ceremony demonstration and served matcha and traditional Japanese sweets to the center’s clients, their families, and staff members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Representing the Omotesenke Domonkai Southern California Region were two board members and four college student volunteers. Approximately 30 guests enjoyed the matcha and sweets, and we were delighted that everyone finished their bowls of tea, warmly embracing the experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Following a dynamic performance by Ryujin Taiko, we presented the tea ceremony demonstration. Many participants commented on the striking contrast between the powerful energy of the taiko drumming and the quiet, contemplative atmosphere of the Way of Tea. It became a wonderful opportunity for visitors to experience two complementary expressions of Japanese culture\u2014movement and stillness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Throughout the demonstration, participants asked many thoughtful questions about the tea utensils, the meaning behind each movement, and the philosophy of the Way of Tea. We were pleased to share the spirit of Wa, Kei, Sei, Jaku (Harmony, Respect, Purity, and Tranquility) as well as the Japanese tradition of heartfelt hospitality embodied in the tea ceremony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Omotesenke Domonkai Southern California Region hopes to continue contributing to the local community through outreach activities such as this while sharing the spirit and traditions of the Omotesenke Way of Tea with an ever-wider audience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
