Participated in “Masters of Carpentry” Exhibition at JAPAN HOUSE Los Angeles

From November 20, 2024, to January 22, 2025, JAPAN HOUSE Los Angeles hosted the traveling exhibition “Masters of Carpentry”, which highlighted the craftsmanship of Japanese temple and shrine carpenters. As part of the exhibition, a small tea room was installed, allowing visitors to appreciate the refined beauty of traditional Japanese tea spaces.
In conjunction with this exhibit, Omotesenke Domonkai Southern California Region was invited to provide a tea demonstration and lecture in the adjacent space, where approximately 15 seats were arranged for guests. Our organization gladly accepted this opportunity, and with the support of dedicated board members and volunteers, we conducted two demonstration sessions on both December 3 and December 10, 2024.
The response to the event was remarkable, with all 15 available seats reserved in advance and a waitlist forming due to high demand. Guests were served a traditional sweet and a bowl of tea, offering them a firsthand experience of the spirit of chanoyu. Following the demonstration, we held a Q&A session, where many attendees expressed great curiosity and enthusiasm for the practice of tea. The level of interest and engagement exceeded our expectations, making this a truly rewarding event for everyone involved.
We were grateful for the opportunity to share the essence of chanoyu with the broader community and appreciated the support of JAPAN HOUSE Los Angeles in fostering cultural exchange.
