2024 Omotesenke Domonkai Southern California Koshukai (workshop) was held
The annual workshops (Koshukai) welcomed Tea Master, Hiroyuki Sugata Sosho and Hiromichi Mori Sensei from Omotesenke Kyoto to Los Angeles. Our workshops were over a period of three (3) days. Friday’s workshop Kyojusha (teachers level) involved 30 participants in practical skills in Jikukazari (hanging the scroll), Hanashomo (flower arranging) and Koicha (thick matcha tea serving).
Saturday’s workshop, Shikakusha (intermediate level) had 39 participants. After registration, the practical skills included Satsubako (handling of the box), followed by Usucha (thin tea serving). There was a lunch break followed by an hour Lecture by Hiromichi Mori Sensei followed by a test paper.
Sunday workshop, Ippan (beginners and all levels) had 59 participants in the practical skills of Omotesenke tea ceremony. Practice skills included Koicha (thick tea serving), Gozumi (replenishment of charcoal in the brassiere) followed by Usucha/Kaejawan (serving thin tea with an extra tea bowl). This was the morning session, followed by lunch break. After our lunch break, our regional General Meeting was led by Administrator, Kyoko Kondo, followed by a lecture on Ryoryosai tea master. While dressed in kimono’s, a professional group photo was taken outdoors. The three days of Mizuya duties were taken care of by Inose/Yoshiyama Shachu and Fukushima Shachu.
A banquet was held at the Miyako Hybrid Hotel, during which a certificate of friendship was presented by the City of Torrance. This grand banquet marked a splendid conclusion to the seminar.
