Tea Ceremony Demonstration was held during the 2024 Nisei Week

The annual Nisei Week festival took place again this summer during the second and third weekends of August. This year, Omotesenke was responsible for hosting a tea ceremony demonstration as part of the event’s celebration of Japanese culture. Over the two-day demonstration, we welcomed between 280 and 300 visitors, serving tea to approximately 220 to 230 attendees. The visitors enjoyed the spirit of Nisei Week, with tea utensils suitable for the summer festival atmosphere and sweets shaped like goldfish. 

On August 10th, the demonstration was led by Okazoe Shachu, and on August 11th, it was hosted by Tanaka and Namiki Shachu. The tea ceremony was held in the tea room of the Japan-America Cultural Center, and we were honored to have Consul General Sone and his wife attend on the 11th.
