The 2025 Rikyuki Memorial Ceremony Held at the Miyako Hybrid Hotel

Our annual Rikyuki Memorial gathering was held on Sunday, March 30, 2025 at the Miyako Hybrid Hotel, in Torrance. Opening message from Administrator, Kyoko Kondo followed by introduction of Mami Sone, wife of Consul General of Japan and Greetings from President Yoshihiko Sano.
Ochato presentation of respectfully offering tea and remembering our founder of Japanese Tea Ceremony, Sen no Rikyu, was performed by teishu, Ms.Natsume Nakamura, shokyaku (first guest) – Ms.Fuyumi Obata and Jikyaku (second guest) – Ms.Kinuko Kogure. The audience was in silent observation and a deep bow of respect was shared at the moment of the tea presentation to Rikyuki-sama represented in the tokonoma (alcove).
This was followed by Oboro Manju and matcha tea served to all in attendance.
An array of Spring flowers on a large tray were used to present Mawaribana (floral arrangement) participated by guests and host. Fukushima Shatsu was represented by Ms. Midori Morita (teishu), Ms.Hisako Niizuma (shokyaku – first guest), Ms.Yuri Takanashi (Jikyaku – second guest), Ms.Lisa Guiotoko (sankyaku – third guest). This was enjoyed by participants and the viewers.
We concluded the day with an enjoyable lunch together prepared by Ise Shima restaurant located in the Miyako Hybrid Hotel. The 2025 Rikyuki event was coordinated and prepared by Inose and Baba shachu.
